FAQs

  • A University-Model® school takes the best aspects of traditional, full-time public and private schools, as well as home schools, and molds them into one model. Students meet on campus three days a week under the direction of professional teachers, and complete lessons at home on alternate days with parents serving as co-teachers. University-Model® school preserves and strengthens the family relationship through increased time together.

  • Homeschool co-ops are a way for families to pool their resources and expertise for specific and often short-term study projects.

University-Model® schools are different by virtue of having specific grade levels, consistent accountability from semester to semester, a full spectrum of courses complete with prerequisites and diploma plans, and a professional administration and faculty (much like a traditional school) partnering with the parents as co-teachers.

  • Students attend class on-campus Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. On these days, school begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m.

On Wednesday and Friday, students complete their work at a “satellite campus,” usually at their own homes.

  • Each student is unique, but generally, you should expect the following:

    • K - 2nd grades: 3-4 hours

    • 3rd -6th grades: 4-5 hours

    • 7th-12th grades: 5-6 hours

  • We offer K-12.

  • Yes. We have a simple dress code requirement. More information can be found in our handbook.

  • Yes, as part of the admission process an entrance exam will be required to assess the likelihood of success in the school and to determine the appropriate placement of incoming students.

  • No. Although Cathedral Oak Academy is located in Friends Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular church or denomination.

We welcome families from various Christian denominations. Please see our Missions + Beliefs page for further information about our non-denominational status.

  • Currently we do not have the staff available to work individually with special needs students.

We can meet with parents on a case-by-case basis and make a mutual decision about whether a student would be well-served at Cathedral Oak Academy. However, because of our small staff size, most of the accommodations would need to be done at home with the parent.

  • Cathedral Oak Academy is a “personal-device-free” campus for students. We do not allow students to bring phones, tablets, or computers to school, and we do not design our lessons around technology during our on-campus days.

Students may need access to a computer (overseen by a parent) to complete lessons on satellite days.

Upper school students will need more access to computers at home, as they are expected to check their own agendas and at times complete research or assignments posted to a learning platform such as ClassReach or Google Classroom.

All families should have access to the internet in order to print the weekly agenda and communicate via ClassReach, and all students should have access to a home printer.

  • One of the most important ingredients in the success of the University-Model® is an available parent who can assist and properly work with the student. For a family in which both parents work outside the home, or a single parent who must work on a full-time basis, a more traditional school is often a better choice.

However, if a family truly desires to enroll in our school and can arrange for a trusted friend or family member to serve as a co-teacher, it's possible to be successful. We can evaluate these situations on a case-by-case basis.
