Building Strong Foundations
Jr. Kindergarten & Kindergarten
Three Days on Campus. Two Days at Home. Building Strong Foundations
At Cathedral Oak Academy, the earliest years of learning are about more than preparing for first grade—they lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning.
Through a distinctly classical Christian approach, children cultivate wonder at God’s creation, build strong academic foundations, develop habits of attention and virtue, and discover the joy of learning within a covenant community.
Our collaborative model partners with parents, giving them more time with their children throughout their education.
Junior Kindergarten vs. Kindergarten
Our Jr. Kindergarten is more than traditional preschool—it introduces children to classical learning, rooted in Christian history and centuries of educational tradition. Through memorization, rich literature, and wonder in God's creation, students prepare for Kindergarten while families experience our collaborative model together.
Kindergarten builds on these foundations with more formal instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics while cultivating virtue and a love of learning.
Parent Partnership remains central in Kindergarten as families grow more confident in the collaborative model and continue to share in the formative work of educating their children.
Partnership with Parents
At COA, parents are our essential partners in education. Through our collaborative model, families and teachers work together to cultivate knowledge, nurture virtue, and shape a lifelong love of learning—forming both children and parents along the way.
Biblical Worldview & Virtue Formation
Spiritual formation begins in the earliest years as children learn to love God and practice kindness, gratitude, and obedience. Through worship, prayer, Scripture memorization, and songs, students begin developing hearts shaped by Christ and a love for what is true, good, and beautiful.
-
Students begin the day together in community through prayer, Scripture, singing, announcements, and shared learning. These gatherings build school-wide unity, reinforce Christian virtues, and cultivate a sense of belonging and purpose.
-
Students memorize Scripture and learn songs and hymns that help them know God’s Word, treasure truth, and carry it with them throughout life. Through repetition and joyful singing, students build a lasting foundation of faith, language, and worship.
-
Students study the Bible as the foundation of Christian faith and life, tracing God’s redemptive story and growing in their understanding of Scripture, doctrine, and Christian character.
-
Students learn to view all areas of study through the truth of Scripture, recognizing God as the source of truth and exploring how faith shapes their understanding of the world, their relationships, and their responsibilities.
-
Students learn to pray with reverence and confidence, developing a daily habit of bringing their needs, gratitude, and praise before God. Through prayer, students grow in their relationship with God and learn to depend on Him in every area of life.
A Classical Approach to Early Learning
Our curriculum is rooted in the classical Christian tradition, nurturing wonder, building foundational knowledge, and putting young children on a path a lifelong love of learning and faithfulness.
